Thessaloniki (520 km. north of Athens), named after half-sister of Alexander the Great, is the second largest city of Greece and the most important centre of the area. Built near the sea (at the back of the Thermaïkos Gulf), it is a modern metropolis bearing the marks of its stormy history and its cosmopolitan character, which give it a special beauty and charm. Thessaloniki, in greek, actually means the "Victory of the Thessalians".

Meet our representative at the airport and get transferred to the hotel. Rest of the day is free at leisure. You may like to visit one of the several pubs and disco’s to enjoy the evening.

Thessaloniki city tour

Welcome to Thessaloniki the city of Alexander the Great. After meeting our representative at the airport your city tour begins. You will visit the Rotonda (Kamara), with the byzantine churches, the holocaust monument, the port of Thessaloniki and the White Tower, the trademark of the city. After visiting the B yzantine city walls and Trigonion Tower, you will visit the basilica of St. Demetrius. We will also visit the archaeological / byzantine museum of Thessaloniki. In the afternoon you can walk around the vivid centre of town for shopping.

Thessaloniki - Vergina

After breakfast, you will visit the first capital of ancient Macedonia, Aigai (nowadays known as Vergina) which hosts the spectacular museum and royal tomb of King Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. After having returned to Thessaloniki in the late afternoon you can visit the waterfront long promenade (Nea Paralia), a focal point for people to walk, to jog or simply stroll by the sea. You may, while being in Thessaloniki visit Halkidiki and Mt. Athos area.

Thessaloniki - Meteora

After breakfast, you depart for Kalambaka. You will visit Meteora. These are unique rock formations, raising high with Christian monasteries built at the top. It is truly fascinating not only to visit the inside of these but to enjoy the amazing views. In the evening we propose a visit to Kastraki village, within walking distance from Kalambaka, to taste one of the restaurant’s homemade sausages, cheese, yoghurt, wine and tsipouro, highly ranked in the gastronomical list of domestic products. Overnight at Kalambaka.

Meteora - Delphi - Athens

Continue south, where you will visit the archaeological area of Delphi. You will visit the ruins of the Sanctuary of Apollo Pythios, and learn the story of this brave god’s triumph over the dragon that guarded the Omphalos. Visit the marble Treasury of the Athenians, built to store the rich offerings of grateful kings. Visit the temple of Apollo, where the eternal flame burned in the gloom. Then explore the on-site museums where you can see the Omphalos stone itself as well as masterpieces of ancient Greek sculpture such as the bronze Charioteer and the famous athlete Aghias. Later In the afternoon, you will reach Athens. Overnight at Athens.

Athens city tour - Cape Sounion (optional)

During your half day city tour you will pass by main attractions of the city such as the Panathenaic Stadium, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Parliament and the memorial to the Unknown Soldier, the Academy, the University, the National Library, the Constitution Square, the Acropolis, the Propylaea, the Erechtheion and finally the Parthenon. Continuing, you will visit the new Acropolis museum. Afternoon is free for shopping or to take the optional trip to Cape Sounion - to visit the temple of Poseidon and enjoy the breathtaking views together with an incredible sunset.

Athens

Enjoy a last stroll around the narrow streets of Plaka, before you get transferred to the airport.
