Borobudur and Prambanan Temple Tour

After breakfast, head out for a tour of Yogyakarta starting with Borobudur. A colossal Buddhist monument which took three-quarters of a century to complete, Borobudur has survived a multitude of disasters right from the 9th century in which it was completed. The single largest Buddhist structure in the world, volcanic eruptions, terrorist bombs and earthquakes have not touched its enigmatic splendour. A paramount testament of human will and labour, Borobudur remains the highlight of architectural brilliance in Southeast Asia. The first glimpse of this monument is just incomparable. The Borobudur looms high from a tapestry of green paddies and swaying palms; this in a region looked on from afar by majestic peaks. This is not just a structure of historical importance, but also a place of worship and pilgrimage for Buddhists.

The Hindu temple complex of Prambanan is your next destination and this monument is from the 9th century, although it was in ruins for several years. An outer courtyard with the remains of more than 200 temples and eight minor and eight major temples in the central courtyard, a 47 metre spire, and lavish carvings make the temple complex special as a historical as well as a religious site.

Day at Leisure

This is a day at leisure for you to plan your own activities in Yogyakarta. You can choose to indulge in a handicraft tour or take an adventurous route to the Dieng Plateau for some stunning sights. You can also visit the beautiful Gedong Songo Temple situated at a height of 900 metre above sea level and has sweeping panoramic views.
